Narrative:
Pushback communication and procedures went normally until the pushback started. The pushback was jerky and unsure. During the pushback; it was apparent that the pushback crew were inexperienced. The tug driver was having a very difficult time. During the push; we came very close to a baggage cart and I felt too close to an aircraft parked at a gate. I told the tug driver to stop the push but was either tuned out or not heard. He continued the push. He apparently was overwhelmed. I considered the brakes; but knew that if I used them; an unsafe and hazardous situation could ensue. Lack of communication between the tug driver and the captain helped create an issue. No damage occurred and no injuries happened.
