Narrative:
Flying direct from newton, ks airport to neosho, mo, 3500'. Door popped open, couldn't close it. Just north of eldorado. Landed at eldorado airport to close door. As I landed, I saw a small wooden 'X' on end of runway 3, but didn't comprehend significance until T/D and noticed fresh asphalt on west edge of runway in addition to a paving asphalt truck at the north end. Wind was a crosswind, so I closed the door properly and proceeded to turn around and takeoff. I didn't cross the wet asphalt. Aircraft radio wasn't working. NOTAMS were checked with wichita FSS with WX brief at 00 hours. Eldorado runway closed wasn't listed. Human performance: I was so preoccupied with the door problem and landing checks that I didn't comprehend the full meaning of the wood 'X' until on runway.
