Narrative:
While cruising at 8;000 airspeed started falling rapidly. I requested descent to lower flight level. At 3;000 the airspeed continued to fall and approached stall. The temperature wasn't near freezing to suggest pitot ice. I decided to deviate to landing than maintain flight to destination; knowing I could break below the clouds and land at a closest airport.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: Extra 300 pilot reported a rapid decrease in indicated airspeed while cruising at 8;000 feet; that resulted in a diversion to the nearest suitable airport.
