Narrative:
Post maintenance flight for annual. Preflight and runup [per] operating manual and fars. I had briefed local controller that this was post maintenance flight and I wanted to climb above pattern altitude and exercise engine and prop while remaining with tower. Discreet squawk given and approved. At gear retraction (manual) small amount of oil spray began hitting right windscreen. I elected to land and tower cleared me to land any runway. No other aircraft in the pattern and winds light and variable. I turned downwind; lowered gear; checks complete and landed. Assume a bit of oil was smoking on hot cylinders so secured engine and electrical on rollout and called for aircraft rescue and firefighting (arff) as precaution. Exited taxiway 'F' and exited aircraft. Aircraft rescue and firefighting was there quickly and determined no further assistance required. Aircraft towed back to maintenance ramp.
