Narrative:
During our initial takeoff roll; the takeoff hold lights (thl) came on as we were rolling towards the end of them. We were approximately 50 KIAS at the time; in clear; visual conditions. No call was made from the tower; so we continued our takeoff. I immediately notified the tower and they seemed surprised that they had come on.runway hold bars cannot be crossed if red; and if turn red while crossing one is to stop. These thls are kind of new to me. I saw no conflict; received no guidance from ATC; so opted to continue takeoff roll.enroute I reviewed the flight manual for answers and guidance. I was unable to find a definitive procedure whether we should have aborted our takeoff; or if illuminated during takeoff roll; the thl guidance was for the next successive aircraft. Would be nice to get clarified. If lights are for next aircraft; they should not come on until we roll past the last one. Distracting and almost led to an unnecessary; I believe; rejected takeoff.
