Narrative:

After landing at dca; we contacted ground and were given the clearance to taxi to the gate via taxiways J; F and K. As we turned onto J from M; we were behind a very slow moving (other carrier) aircraft; which was taxiing for departure via J; P; C and short of runway 4. Once we side-stepped over to taxiway K we were parallel with the (other carrier) aircraft. Near the intersection of P and C; the taxi lines for taxiway K and P come closer together. The captain fortunately saw this and stopped the taxi. We are both convinced that had he not done this; the wingtip of our aircraft could have struck the (other carrier) aircraft wingtip. Our concern is with the proximity of the taxi lines. With additional threats such as low visibility or distractions; a collision could occur. The ground frequency was very congested and we were unable to query the controller at that time.fortunately; the captain noticed the proximity to the other aircraft in time to avoid a collision. Had he not; this would be a much different story. Perhaps a note for a safety concern or even a hot spot added to the taxi diagram might help pilots stay aware of the possible hazard.
