Narrative:
Climbing to assigned altitude of 3;000 feet; encountered an abrupt moderate to severe turbulence (suspected wake turbulence) between 2700 feet MSL and 3000 feet MSL. Autopilot system showed altitude capture at 3000 feet MSL; however; autopilot had difficulty in leveling at 3000 feet MSL and appeared to continue through 3000 feet MSL. Autopilot was disconnected and aircraft manually returned to assigned altitude of 3000 feet MSL. It is estimated aircraft reached 3300 feet MSL before climb was manually arrested.lesson to share - be aware some autopilot systems may not be able to properly follow commands when encountering sudden turbulent conditions.
