Narrative:

Small transport X called for taxi from transient parking. He was assigned runway 34. He taxied to an intersection on runway 34 with only 3700' of runway vs 5000'. When asked by the tower of his intentions he stated, 'I'm unfamiliar and this looked like the right way to go.' it's the pilots responsibility to either know the airport layout or ask for directions if they are unable. Controllers cannot catch every pilots mistakes all the time. This mistake only delayed one other aircraft taxiing this time.

Title: CTLR REPORTER COMPLAINS ABOUT PLT UNFAMILIARITY WITH ARPT WHILE TAXIING OUT.

Narrative: SMT X CALLED FOR TAXI FROM TRANSIENT PARKING. HE WAS ASSIGNED RWY 34. HE TAXIED TO AN INTXN ON RWY 34 WITH ONLY 3700' OF RWY VS 5000'. WHEN ASKED BY THE TWR OF HIS INTENTIONS HE STATED, 'I'M UNFAMILIAR AND THIS LOOKED LIKE THE R WAY TO GO.' IT'S THE PLTS RESPONSIBILITY TO EITHER KNOW THE ARPT LAYOUT OR ASK FOR DIRECTIONS IF THEY ARE UNABLE. CTLRS CANNOT CATCH EVERY PLTS MISTAKES ALL THE TIME. THIS MISTAKE ONLY DELAYED ONE OTHER ACFT TAXIING THIS TIME.
