Narrative:

Assigned 3000' MSL. Flew up to 3400' before correcting. Also heading error. Possible loss of sep with other aircraft (type not remembered) assigned 4000' MSL. Cockpit problem with slaved compass system and HSI that initialized 180 degrees backwards. Preoccupation by fatigued pilot caused momentary altitude and heading errors. Corrected immediately. Compass was successfully reoriented--flight continued normally. HSI compass is now a checklist item.

Narrative: ASSIGNED 3000' MSL. FLEW UP TO 3400' BEFORE CORRECTING. ALSO HDG ERROR. POSSIBLE LOSS OF SEP WITH OTHER ACFT (TYPE NOT REMEMBERED) ASSIGNED 4000' MSL. COCKPIT PROB WITH SLAVED COMPASS SYS AND HSI THAT INITIALIZED 180 DEGS BACKWARDS. PREOCCUPATION BY FATIGUED PLT CAUSED MOMENTARY ALT AND HDG ERRORS. CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY. COMPASS WAS SUCCESSFULLY REORIENTED--FLT CONTINUED NORMALLY. HSI COMPASS IS NOW A CHECKLIST ITEM.
