Narrative:
I was PF (pilot flying). We briefed the taxi route from the gate to deice pad and from the deice pad to runway 28C during the captain's brief. After deicing; we called ground control for taxi from deice pad and we were told to follow (another carrier) to runway 28C. We joined taxiway echo behind (the other carrier) and taxied toward runway 28C. (The other carrier) was issued takeoff clearance approaching the runway; so they made the right turn on taxiway echo and taxied on the runway without stopping at the hold short. We were following (the other carrier) and just before making the right turn toward the runway; we realized we had crossed the hold short line without clearance. We stopped immediately and (the other carrier) took off at about the same time. Tower cleared us for takeoff; so we continued the taxi and takeoff. Tower did not say anything about us being past the hold short line; they just cleared us for takeoff.
