Narrative:
Cpr X received clearance to taxi to runway 13R from east side of airport (note; runway 13L closed to takeoff due to late hour, txwys recently redesignated different from taxiway diagram in use. Runway 13 right seldom used by crew). While looking for taxiway 'north' which would short-cut diagonally to runway 13R: crew realizes it has continued to hold lines mid-field runway 13R. Informed ATC that 180 degree turn was being performed to join parallel taxiway. ATC stated that a turn was missed and they would write a report about that. The meaning of that statement was unclr in view of the fact that no specific route was to be followed to runway 13R. Hence this report, in the future progressive taxi instructions will be requested.
