Narrative:
We were cleared to runway 36 for takeoff (6000' runway). I requested runway 27 (8000' runway ) with calm winds. Taxied to runway 27 and cleared for takeoff. Just after rotation prior to gear retraction we both saw an small aircraft on a low approach to runway 9. Since we were never advised of the traffic we were somewhat surprised. Climb was shallowed and no turn was initiated until well clear. I believe the training flight was instructed to break off to the left but was either slow or delayed.
