Narrative:

Scheduled flight san to sfo. Clearance was to fly the peble one departure which requires a right turn to 290 degree after takeoff. We were rushed due to a void time. Approaching the runway while maneuvering around aircraft we were cleared for takeoff and given a new altitude of 8000'. After takeoff I turned to a 290 degree heading. Passing 2000' we cleared a 2000' cloud deck and observed the aircraft that departed ahead of us on a parallel course 1 mi horizontal and 1000' vertical. I began a shallow turn to the left to avoid getting closer. At that time departure called instructing a left turn. Following up by phone (after landing) departure control said that we were given a new clearance on takeoff to maintain runway heading and that the first officer acknowledged. Neither the captain nor first officer recalled being issued a heading by tower nor acknowledged. We both heard only the altitude and takeoff clearance. Supplemental information from acn 154413. We were given the peble one departure which requires a right turn to 290 degree after takeoff. We had a void time of xx:42 if not airborne. We were taxiing behind an medium large transport as we switched to tower and were immediately cleared into position and hold. The medium large transport pulled to the right and as we began taxiing around it we were cleared for takeoff. A commuter plane was on its takeoff roll and the tower changed our initial altitude from 14000' to 8000' which I acknowledged. After takeoff the captain began his turn to 290 degree. Departure told us to look for traffic at 2-3 O'clock when we break out at 2100'. We spotted the traffic at about 1 O'clock. Departure gave us an immediate 40 degree left turn. After phoning departure later, we were told that tower had assigned either runway heading or 275 degree. I don't recall hearing or acknowledging this, though they say I acknowledged it. Since it was a change from our initial clearance, it would have been a good idea for tower to state 'amend heading to runway heading.' we did hear the altitude amendment, but not the change in heading. They probably should also state 'aircraft that just departed will be turning north', or something to that affect.

Title: MLG ON TKOF HAS CLRNC ALT AMENDED. CLIMBING THROUGH CLOUDS TAKES EVASIVE ACTION FOR SEPARATION. TOLD THERE WAS ALSO A HEADING AMENDMENT.

Narrative: SCHEDULED FLT SAN TO SFO. CLRNC WAS TO FLY THE PEBLE ONE DEP WHICH REQUIRES A R TURN TO 290 DEG AFTER TKOF. WE WERE RUSHED DUE TO A VOID TIME. APCHING THE RWY WHILE MANEUVERING AROUND ACFT WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF AND GIVEN A NEW ALT OF 8000'. AFTER TKOF I TURNED TO A 290 DEG HDG. PASSING 2000' WE CLRED A 2000' CLOUD DECK AND OBSERVED THE ACFT THAT DEPARTED AHEAD OF US ON A PARALLEL COURSE 1 MI HORIZ AND 1000' VERT. I BEGAN A SHALLOW TURN TO THE L TO AVOID GETTING CLOSER. AT THAT TIME DEP CALLED INSTRUCTING A L TURN. FOLLOWING UP BY PHONE (AFTER LNDG) DEP CTL SAID THAT WE WERE GIVEN A NEW CLRNC ON TKOF TO MAINTAIN RWY HDG AND THAT THE F/O ACKNOWLEDGED. NEITHER THE CAPT NOR F/O RECALLED BEING ISSUED A HDG BY TWR NOR ACKNOWLEDGED. WE BOTH HEARD ONLY THE ALT AND TKOF CLRNC. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 154413. WE WERE GIVEN THE PEBLE ONE DEP WHICH REQUIRES A R TURN TO 290 DEG AFTER TKOF. WE HAD A VOID TIME OF XX:42 IF NOT AIRBORNE. WE WERE TAXIING BEHIND AN MLG AS WE SWITCHED TO TWR AND WERE IMMEDIATELY CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD. THE MLG PULLED TO THE R AND AS WE BEGAN TAXIING AROUND IT WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. A COMMUTER PLANE WAS ON ITS TKOF ROLL AND THE TWR CHANGED OUR INITIAL ALT FROM 14000' TO 8000' WHICH I ACKNOWLEDGED. AFTER TKOF THE CAPT BEGAN HIS TURN TO 290 DEG. DEP TOLD US TO LOOK FOR TFC AT 2-3 O'CLOCK WHEN WE BREAK OUT AT 2100'. WE SPOTTED THE TFC AT ABOUT 1 O'CLOCK. DEP GAVE US AN IMMEDIATE 40 DEG L TURN. AFTER PHONING DEP LATER, WE WERE TOLD THAT TWR HAD ASSIGNED EITHER RWY HDG OR 275 DEG. I DON'T RECALL HEARING OR ACKNOWLEDGING THIS, THOUGH THEY SAY I ACKNOWLEDGED IT. SINCE IT WAS A CHANGE FROM OUR INITIAL CLRNC, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD IDEA FOR TWR TO STATE 'AMEND HDG TO RWY HDG.' WE DID HEAR THE ALT AMENDMENT, BUT NOT THE CHANGE IN HDG. THEY PROBABLY SHOULD ALSO STATE 'ACFT THAT JUST DEPARTED WILL BE TURNING N', OR SOMETHING TO THAT AFFECT.
