Narrative:
During climb, cylinder 5 apparently broke at the top of the cylinder, the engine lost power, but would maintain 100-1500 RPM, 15-20'. We declared a mayday and proceeded back to ocala airport to land. We noticed that the static currency was out of date and have scheduled for a check as soon as aircraft is repaired. Landing was successful. We are noting this static check was overdue but had no influence on the power problem.
