Narrative:
After being cleared for takeoff. I followed my departure clearance, I was never told to contact departure control. I now realize that I had a communication problem. I then tried both communication 1 and communication 2 with frequencys 120.1 and 126.10 tower and departure respectively. After no response I checked the connection between the headphone plugs and the jacks. I reset both and communication was restored. I then continued my flight from iad to cae uneventfully. After inspection on the ground in cae no further action was necessary.
