Narrative:

I was pilot flying on the BANKR2 arrival into clt. The aircraft was a nextgen 700. VNAV with airspeed guidance was enabled. Towards the end of the arrival; we were assigned a lower altitude than what was published on the arrival. I set the new altitude (I believe it was 7000 feet) and switched from VNAV to vs mode. When this occurred; the speed guidance was disabled. I did not adjust my 250 kts to 210 kts at blnce. We were vectored to the ILS 36L. As I realized my mistake and began slowing the aircraft; the controller asked us to slow to 210 kts. The rest of the approach was normal; and nothing else was said by ATC. Traffic was light at the time; and no separation seemed to be lost. Too much reliance on automation occurred. I need to maintain vigilance when changing FMA modes.
