Narrative:
After taking off from new orleans lakefront airport small transport X joined moisant (no international) approach for vectoring practice approachs multi-engine IFR flight training. We followed heading and altitude assignments to the letter. After following an easterly heading for several mins a voice different from the first controller accused us of entering lakefront's air traffic area (we were on an IFR flight plan) and gave us a new heading and altitude. It became apparent that we had been mistakenly vectored through the final approach pth to runway 36L at lakefront. Shortly following came a voice identing himself as the supervisor and wanting to know why we had not responded radio call. I explained to him in no uncertain terms that we had followed exactly our last heading and altitude assignment and I am 100 percent certain we did not miss any other call and in any case did not acknowledge any. There was a pause, he changed his attitude and the remainder of the flight was uneventful. It is my firm conviction that either there was a shift change and/or controller training taking place and in the handoff from one controller to the other somebody dropped the ball. In short, they forgot about us. The result was we were vectored through the final approach path for an active runway at lakefront in marginal WX.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SMT X VECTORED THROUGH THE FINAL APCH COURSE AT MSY AND ENTERED NEW ATA.
Narrative: AFTER TAKING OFF FROM NEW ORLEANS LAKEFRONT ARPT SMT X JOINED MOISANT (NO INTL) APCH FOR VECTORING PRACTICE APCHS MULTI-ENG IFR FLT TRNING. WE FOLLOWED HDG AND ALT ASSIGNMENTS TO THE LETTER. AFTER FOLLOWING AN EASTERLY HDG FOR SEVERAL MINS A VOICE DIFFERENT FROM THE FIRST CTLR ACCUSED US OF ENTERING LAKEFRONT'S ATA (WE WERE ON AN IFR FLT PLAN) AND GAVE US A NEW HDG AND ALT. IT BECAME APPARENT THAT WE HAD BEEN MISTAKENLY VECTORED THROUGH THE FINAL APCH PTH TO RWY 36L AT LAKEFRONT. SHORTLY FOLLOWING CAME A VOICE IDENTING HIMSELF AS THE SUPVR AND WANTING TO KNOW WHY WE HAD NOT RESPONDED RADIO CALL. I EXPLAINED TO HIM IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS THAT WE HAD FOLLOWED EXACTLY OUR LAST HDG AND ALT ASSIGNMENT AND I AM 100 PERCENT CERTAIN WE DID NOT MISS ANY OTHER CALL AND IN ANY CASE DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY. THERE WAS A PAUSE, HE CHANGED HIS ATTITUDE AND THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL. IT IS MY FIRM CONVICTION THAT EITHER THERE WAS A SHIFT CHANGE AND/OR CTLR TRNING TAKING PLACE AND IN THE HDOF FROM ONE CTLR TO THE OTHER SOMEBODY DROPPED THE BALL. IN SHORT, THEY FORGOT ABOUT US. THE RESULT WAS WE WERE VECTORED THROUGH THE FINAL APCH PATH FOR AN ACTIVE RWY AT LAKEFRONT IN MARGINAL WX.
