Narrative:
We were taxiing into [the] gate on taxiway J. We were instructed to hold at spot X. Ramp control handed off controllers and the new controller did not know our instructions. He claimed over the radio 'I'm not sure why [airline] is there.' I responded with 'sir; we were instructed to hold at spot X.' ramp control responded with 'how am I supposed to know that; I just got here.' we were then instructed to taxi in. I turned my taxi light on and proceeded to turn inward toward the ramp. A fuel truck; kept approaching the aircraft. I turn on my landing lights and runway turnoff lights in hopes that it would get their attention. The fuel truck continue to drive toward the aircraft. I slammed on the brakes and the aircraft violently stopped. At that point I would not be able to continue without hitting the fuel truck. I turned off the lights and motioned for them to continue. I continued to the gate once they were clear.
