Narrative:
Departing the hmv VOR on the VOR DME B approach to vji the right seat pilot misread the minimum altitude of 6000' as 4200' for that segment of the approach. As the PF I accepted the called minimum altitude from the other pilot. The approach controller at tri questioned our altitude and I immediately went back to 6000' and made the approach.

Title: SMT FLT CREW DESCENDS EARLY, AND TO WRONG ALT ON VOR DME B APCH TO VJI.
Narrative: DEPARTING THE HMV VOR ON THE VOR DME B APCH TO VJI THE RIGHT SEAT PLT MISREAD THE MINIMUM ALT OF 6000' AS 4200' FOR THAT SEGMENT OF THE APCH. AS THE PF I ACCEPTED THE CALLED MINIMUM ALT FROM THE OTHER PLT. THE APCH CTLR AT TRI QUESTIONED OUR ALT AND I IMMEDIATELY WENT BACK TO 6000' AND MADE THE APCH.
