Narrative:
We had missed the lda DME-C approach. Normally we conduct the LOA DME-east approach, but I had an first officer who was not qualified to conduct the 'east' approach. I have received intensive training on the lda DME-east approach which calls for a climb to 8000' on the miss. Unfortunately the 'C' approach calls for a climb to 7000'. In error, I climbed to 8000', the altitude that has been drilled into me since we have begun using the special 'east' approach. We discovered the error while further consulting the approach plate for the routing on the miss (which is extensive). At the same time we contacted anc ARTCC. He was not aware of our error, but said that he had the airspace protected to 8000', so no conflict occurred. I suggest that the altitude on the miss be made the same for both the valdez, ak lda DME-C&east approachs.

Narrative: WE HAD MISSED THE LDA DME-C APCH. NORMALLY WE CONDUCT THE LOA DME-E APCH, BUT I HAD AN F/O WHO WAS NOT QUALIFIED TO CONDUCT THE 'E' APCH. I HAVE RECEIVED INTENSIVE TRNING ON THE LDA DME-E APCH WHICH CALLS FOR A CLB TO 8000' ON THE MISS. UNFORTUNATELY THE 'C' APCH CALLS FOR A CLB TO 7000'. IN ERROR, I CLBED TO 8000', THE ALT THAT HAS BEEN DRILLED INTO ME SINCE WE HAVE BEGUN USING THE SPECIAL 'E' APCH. WE DISCOVERED THE ERROR WHILE FURTHER CONSULTING THE APCH PLATE FOR THE RTING ON THE MISS (WHICH IS EXTENSIVE). AT THE SAME TIME WE CONTACTED ANC ARTCC.
