Narrative:
As first officer I took the clearance from clearance delivery at lga. I received la guardia 3 departure. Whitestone climb, as filed maintain 5000', as with common practice at busy airports I read back only the squawk. Departing off runway 13 we flew the side 175 degree heading after takeoff, at 3 DME a left turn to 040 degree heading. After contacting departure frequency, the controller gave us a 340 degree (right turn). He then asked us to verify a right turn as it looked like we were in a left turn (we actually had stopped the left turn and were now coming right to 340 degree). The controller seemed confused and inquired which departure climb was had been issued by clearance delivery. We responded, whitestone climb. He said this was not correct, should have been maspeth climb. I feel that I may have misunderstood the whitestone climb for maspeth climb during the initial clearance issue. However, the clearance was read very fast and a full readback is not expected nor required. I think that with one word determining a left or right turn after departure it should be a requirement for a full readback (at least the routing). I will now be giving full readbacks of my clrncs even if it does slow things down! A hard copy of the clearance would certainly help. I must add that this was the last leg of a 5 leg day, tiredness is a factor.

Title: CLRNC DELIVERY WAS ACKNOWLEDGED BY REPEATING SQUAWK CODE ONLY. FOLLOWING SID FLC WAS CORRECTED TO MASPETH CLIMB RATHER THAN WHITESTONE.
