Narrative:
No problem encountered, no unsafe condition encountered. Conducted a 10 NM straight-in approach to auburn runway 25. No contact with unicom, so I conducted a 100' low approach to determine the wind condition/wind indicator position. Go around was conducted using 23' map (40' available) and 2200 RPM. This small aircraft is very noisy at high RPM. I conducted a wide closed pattern and converted to a 360 degree overhead on runway 25. Landed west/O incident from a long final approach. Two days later sac FSDO called me and threatened a violation. He was unsure on what to charge me with. I admit that a relatively high RPM approach is unnecessary and dumb from a public relations standpoint. I think I will land from a power off simulated flame out pattern from now on. At no time did I violate any far that I am aware of.

Title: LOW LEVEL CIVIL OPERATION DRAWS A NOISE COMPLAINT.
Narrative: NO PROB ENCOUNTERED, NO UNSAFE CONDITION ENCOUNTERED. CONDUCTED A 10 NM STRAIGHT-IN APCH TO AUBURN RWY 25. NO CONTACT WITH UNICOM, SO I CONDUCTED A 100' LOW APCH TO DETERMINE THE WIND CONDITION/WIND INDICATOR POS. GO AROUND WAS CONDUCTED USING 23' MAP (40' AVAILABLE) AND 2200 RPM. THIS SMA IS VERY NOISY AT HIGH RPM. I CONDUCTED A WIDE CLOSED PATTERN AND CONVERTED TO A 360 DEG OVERHEAD ON RWY 25. LANDED W/O INCIDENT FROM A LONG FINAL APCH. TWO DAYS LATER SAC FSDO CALLED ME AND THREATENED A VIOLATION. HE WAS UNSURE ON WHAT TO CHARGE ME WITH. I ADMIT THAT A RELATIVELY HIGH RPM APCH IS UNNECESSARY AND DUMB FROM A PUBLIC RELATIONS STANDPOINT. I THINK I WILL LAND FROM A PWR OFF SIMULATED FLAME OUT PATTERN FROM NOW ON. AT NO TIME DID I VIOLATE ANY FAR THAT I AM AWARE OF.
