Narrative:

I have never written so many NASA reports in my career as I have in the last 2 months. This is the reason for this one. What has been viewed as isolated but insignificant incidents in my personal life lately have insidiously directed my attention away from the task at hand, flying the aircraft. Prior to departing for a flight I had gone in the chief pilots office to arrange for some time off at the end of 10/90 because of a pending lawsuit. I had done this about 20 mins prior to departure. As I was leaving the chief pilots office, I handed him a piece of paper with a printout of my license number, address, etc and asked him what it was for and what was to be accomplished. He said it was a notification regarding my medical. Thinking I had one month to complete the requirement, I dismissed any urgency and flew the trip. The medical had expired the day before. What I didn't mention at first was that I have been in 2 different automatic accidents where a person was injured, very high speed, heavy aborted takeoff in 9/90, purchase and closing of a new home, and then the lawsuit came up. Although the automatic accidents were not my fault, I think I contributed through my mental state of being preoccupied with other events, glad it wasn't an aircraft accident. Sometimes a person is not sick, but never the less should not be flying. How insidiously these things can sneak up on a person.

Title: MEDICAL CERTIFICATE EXPIRED.

Narrative: I HAVE NEVER WRITTEN SO MANY NASA RPTS IN MY CAREER AS I HAVE IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS. THIS IS THE REASON FOR THIS ONE. WHAT HAS BEEN VIEWED AS ISOLATED BUT INSIGNIFICANT INCIDENTS IN MY PERSONAL LIFE LATELY HAVE INSIDIOUSLY DIRECTED MY ATTN AWAY FROM THE TASK AT HAND, FLYING THE ACFT. PRIOR TO DEPARTING FOR A FLT I HAD GONE IN THE CHIEF PLTS OFFICE TO ARRANGE FOR SOME TIME OFF AT THE END OF 10/90 BECAUSE OF A PENDING LAWSUIT. I HAD DONE THIS ABOUT 20 MINS PRIOR TO DEP. AS I WAS LEAVING THE CHIEF PLTS OFFICE, I HANDED HIM A PIECE OF PAPER WITH A PRINTOUT OF MY LICENSE NUMBER, ADDRESS, ETC AND ASKED HIM WHAT IT WAS FOR AND WHAT WAS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED. HE SAID IT WAS A NOTIFICATION REGARDING MY MEDICAL. THINKING I HAD ONE MONTH TO COMPLETE THE REQUIREMENT, I DISMISSED ANY URGENCY AND FLEW THE TRIP. THE MEDICAL HAD EXPIRED THE DAY BEFORE. WHAT I DIDN'T MENTION AT FIRST WAS THAT I HAVE BEEN IN 2 DIFFERENT AUTO ACCIDENTS WHERE A PERSON WAS INJURED, VERY HIGH SPD, HEAVY ABORTED TKOF IN 9/90, PURCHASE AND CLOSING OF A NEW HOME, AND THEN THE LAWSUIT CAME UP. ALTHOUGH THE AUTO ACCIDENTS WERE NOT MY FAULT, I THINK I CONTRIBUTED THROUGH MY MENTAL STATE OF BEING PREOCCUPIED WITH OTHER EVENTS, GLAD IT WASN'T AN ACFT ACCIDENT. SOMETIMES A PERSON IS NOT SICK, BUT NEVER THE LESS SHOULD NOT BE FLYING. HOW INSIDIOUSLY THESE THINGS CAN SNEAK UP ON A PERSON.
