Narrative:
Aircraft ground-checked ok. At takeoff gen warning light came on (idiot light only, no meter). Turned off all but tower communication and tracked out. Gen seemed to be ok. Forgot to turn transponder back on for about 4 mi (at newhall pass). Turned it on and gen light started to glow again. Returned to field. Radio was getting weak. Not sure if transponder was putting out. At all times under bur arsa or beyond it. Whiteman airport is 25 NM from lax TCA, so I tracked out the 5 NM out the TCA west/O xpoinder.
