Narrative:

I was flying on J56 outbnd from hayden VOR. ZDV cleared us to continue on J56 and hold as published at benam, 15 NM legs. While tracking outbnd on J56, I began briefing the holding pattern, slowing the aircraft and briefing the arrival and approach into den. The captain had the den 313 degree right set up on his hso. I thought the distance from hayden to estus (the dog-leg turn point on J56) was 134 NM (yellow highlight on attached sheet) vs 81 NM (34 + 47). We overshot estus. ZDV told us we had missed the turn. We immediately turned right toward benam. Then ZDV started giving us delay vectors vs holding at benam. We were subsequently cleared via own navigation for the rest of the arrival to den a few moments later. There were 2 contributing factors in this case, as well as corrective actions. The en route chart would be better if the '134' had been printed above the J56 designator instead of the '47,' and the '47' was where the '134' is. Also, a 'D81' (with an arrow underneath) should be on the arwy, designating mileage from hayden to estus on J56. Closer en route monitoring while briefings are being conducted.

Title: FLT CREW MISSED TURN TO HOLDING PATTERN.

Narrative: I WAS FLYING ON J56 OUTBND FROM HAYDEN VOR. ZDV CLRED US TO CONTINUE ON J56 AND HOLD AS PUBLISHED AT BENAM, 15 NM LEGS. WHILE TRACKING OUTBND ON J56, I BEGAN BRIEFING THE HOLDING PATTERN, SLOWING THE ACFT AND BRIEFING THE ARR AND APCH INTO DEN. THE CAPT HAD THE DEN 313 DEG R SET UP ON HIS HSO. WE WERE SUBSEQUENTLY CLRED VIA OWN NAV FOR THE REST OF THE ARR TO DEN A FEW MOMENTS LATER. THERE WERE 2 CONTRIBUTING FACTORS IN THIS CASE, AS WELL AS CORRECTIVE ACTIONS. THE ENRTE CHART WOULD BE BETTER IF THE '134' HAD BEEN PRINTED ABOVE THE J56 DESIGNATOR INSTEAD OF THE '47,' AND THE '47' WAS WHERE THE '134' IS. ALSO, A 'D81' (WITH AN ARROW UNDERNEATH) SHOULD BE ON THE ARWY, DESIGNATING MILEAGE FROM HAYDEN TO ESTUS ON J56. CLOSER ENRTE MONITORING WHILE BRIEFINGS ARE BEING CONDUCTED.
