Narrative:

My second trip ever into lga. Fairly new captain on medium large transport (advanced) after merger. I had been flying exclusively on west coast. I was flying. Lga tower cleared us for takeoff on runway 31 when we were holding short of runway on taxiway. It took some amount of time to line up, finish takeoff checklist and get both engines evenly spooled up. Cfm-56's typically do not spool up at same rate. I definitely did not want to have directional control problems on takeoff on a 7000' long runway like air carrier company did 1 yr ago. As we were rolling down the runway, I noticed landing lights to our right (air carrier Y cleared to land on runway 22). At about the same time, air carrier Y said to tower, 'we're going around--we'll turn left to pass behind.' tower said, 'yeah, I was about to send you around.' then supervisor's voice came over tower frequency and said, 'air carrier X, fly low through the intersection.' I did. First officer was unaware of the whole potential conflict and had not heard or perceived the radio calls. He did not know anything had happened out of the ordinary until I made a comment about it later in the flight and told him what had happened!

Title: ACR CLEARED FOR TKOF CAUSED A LNDG ACR TO GO AROUND ON AN INTERSECTING RWY.

Narrative: MY SECOND TRIP EVER INTO LGA. FAIRLY NEW CAPT ON MLG (ADVANCED) AFTER MERGER. I HAD BEEN FLYING EXCLUSIVELY ON W COAST. I WAS FLYING. LGA TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF ON RWY 31 WHEN WE WERE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY ON TXWY. IT TOOK SOME AMOUNT OF TIME TO LINE UP, FINISH TKOF CHKLIST AND GET BOTH ENGS EVENLY SPOOLED UP. CFM-56'S TYPICALLY DO NOT SPOOL UP AT SAME RATE. I DEFINITELY DID NOT WANT TO HAVE DIRECTIONAL CTL PROBS ON TKOF ON A 7000' LONG RWY LIKE ACR COMPANY DID 1 YR AGO. AS WE WERE ROLLING DOWN THE RWY, I NOTICED LNDG LIGHTS TO OUR RIGHT (ACR Y CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 22). AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME, ACR Y SAID TO TWR, 'WE'RE GOING AROUND--WE'LL TURN LEFT TO PASS BEHIND.' TWR SAID, 'YEAH, I WAS ABOUT TO SEND YOU AROUND.' THEN SUPVR'S VOICE CAME OVER TWR FREQ AND SAID, 'ACR X, FLY LOW THROUGH THE INTXN.' I DID. F/O WAS UNAWARE OF THE WHOLE POTENTIAL CONFLICT AND HAD NOT HEARD OR PERCEIVED THE RADIO CALLS. HE DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING HAD HAPPENED OUT OF THE ORDINARY UNTIL I MADE A COMMENT ABOUT IT LATER IN THE FLT AND TOLD HIM WHAT HAD HAPPENED!
