Narrative:

PF (copilot) started taxiing while I was closing the door and securing the cargo net. He called for taxi and proceeded. I did not hear the clearance, but by the time I got in the cockpit we were on the taxiway holding short of runway 36R, which is the usual procedure. Ground then called to see if we were at the ramp hold point short of 'D' yet. I responded that we were holding short of runway 36R at 'D5'. The controller hesitated but the cleared us across the runway. Another aircraft behind us was given the same clearance. That is when I realized what had happened. The copilot that day is a qualified captain. He is a retired commercial airline captain with over 35000 hours, flies for us part-time. I have flown with him off and on for almost 3 yrs now. He is easy to work with and mostly stays ahead of the game, at least up until recently. I am noticing that he is starting to slow down. He is getting behind in procedures and struggles to keep pace. He is missing more radio calls, and sometimes misunderstanding the ones he does get. I believe he is 68-69 yrs old. For me it almost doubles my workload. I have to perform my duties and also keep a close eye on him. The easiest procedure is to let him do the flying so I can closely monitor calls and his actions. This person frequently acts as captain on other flts. I am concerned about him being paired with a low time copilot. I have voiced my concern, 'the situation will be monitored.'

Title: AIR TAXI FLT CREW TAXIS WITHOUT CLRNC.

ANOTHER ACFT BEHIND US WAS GIVEN THE SAME CLRNC. THAT IS WHEN I REALIZED WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THE COPLT THAT DAY IS A QUALIFIED CAPT.
