Narrative:

While approaching the airport for a straight in to runway 21, we noticed an helicopter maneuvering west of the airport. I noticed that we were descending (my copilot was occupying the left seat and flying). As is custom, I assumed that the mlt helicopter Y would be landing on the parallel taxiway. When maneuvering for landing, I noted that the helicopter Y positioned himself above our altitude in line with runway 21. As full flaps had been selected, my copilot proceeded with the landing, under the helicopter Y. Though we were announcing our position on unicom, we did not know the mlt helicopter Y only was equipped with UHF communication. If he had VHF, no problem would have occurred. We should have flown a full pattern, but after 8 1/2 day, we were tired. I should have provided crew guidance in initiating a go around.

Title: AIRBORNE CONFLICT BETWEEN SMT X AND MIL HELICOPTER Y AT 1B1.

Narrative: WHILE APCHING THE ARPT FOR A STRAIGHT IN TO RWY 21, WE NOTICED AN HELI MANEUVERING W OF THE ARPT. I NOTICED THAT WE WERE DSNDING (MY COPLT WAS OCCUPYING THE LEFT SEAT AND FLYING). AS IS CUSTOM, I ASSUMED THAT THE MLT HELI Y WOULD BE LNDG ON THE PARALLEL TXWY. WHEN MANEUVERING FOR LNDG, I NOTED THAT THE HELI Y POSITIONED HIMSELF ABOVE OUR ALT IN LINE WITH RWY 21. AS FULL FLAPS HAD BEEN SELECTED, MY COPLT PROCEEDED WITH THE LNDG, UNDER THE HELI Y. THOUGH WE WERE ANNOUNCING OUR POS ON UNICOM, WE DID NOT KNOW THE MLT HELI Y ONLY WAS EQUIPPED WITH UHF COM. IF HE HAD VHF, NO PROB WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. WE SHOULD HAVE FLOWN A FULL PATTERN, BUT AFTER 8 1/2 DAY, WE WERE TIRED. I SHOULD HAVE PROVIDED CREW GUIDANCE IN INITIATING A GAR.
