Narrative:

At 24000' cruise, I believe, established on majic arrival into clt. While making a passenger announcement, first officer disconnected autoplt abruptly and began a steer turn to the right. Took passenger announcement phone away from my ear and heard ATC frantically instructing our flight to turn right and another flight to also turn right. I responded, then ATC requested us to turn further right to heading 360 degrees. Another voice (ATC) came on radio instructed us to turn back to left to reintercept course. Requested center phone #. Arrival at clt called ZDC. Spoke to manager on duty. He advised they were in training environment and conflicting aircraft had been climbing slower than expected and had entered our airspace (2.5 mi, 300').
