Narrative:

Making approach to lga planned an expressway visibility to 31. This was my first approach to lga. Copilot told me he had done this before so I trusted him (first mistake). Approach asked if we had airport in sight. I told him 'no,' so he told approach 'yes, airport in sight.' we were cleared for expressway visibility to 31. As we flew abeam runway 31 copilot said, 'there's the airport.' I said, 'we cannot make the runway,' so he said 'we're ok, just continue straight ahead and turn around.' about this tie tower said airport is 7 O'clock, 3 mi. We made turn back to airport but were too high, so executed missed approach.
