Narrative:
On the third day of a 3 day trip that was scheduled for 20 hours of flying and 22 flts I was operating on reduced rest and was assigned an extra round trip. I was not sure that I could do this round trip legally. I queried my scheduling department and was assured that the trip was legal and that I would be legal to finish the rest of my schedule for the day. After flying the round trip I was still in doubt of my legality and asked my chief pilot if I was legal. He assured me that I was and sent me to fly the trip. I then determined that I was not legal to fly due to being scheduled for more than 9 hours and 8 hours of reduced rest. I had been flying illegally and would have still been illegal if I had continued to fly, so I took myself off line. The problem arose due to the fact that my company builds schedules around the minimum rest requirements and the maximum allowable flying. It is also due to the hectic pace and demands of my company and the schedules. It is, at times, difficult for me to keep track of the flight and rest requirements. This is especially true when working back to back 12-14 hours duty days on minimum and reduced rest. Contributing also was my faith in the scheduling department and chief pilot to know the far's and to help me when I wasn't sure of the legality of the situation.

Title: REPORTER STATES HE FLEW OVER FEDERAL AVIATION REG DUTY TIME AND FLT TIME.
Narrative: ON THE THIRD DAY OF A 3 DAY TRIP THAT WAS SCHEDULED FOR 20 HRS OF FLYING AND 22 FLTS I WAS OPERATING ON REDUCED REST AND WAS ASSIGNED AN EXTRA ROUND TRIP. I WAS NOT SURE THAT I COULD DO THIS ROUND TRIP LEGALLY. I QUERIED MY SCHEDULING DEPT AND WAS ASSURED THAT THE TRIP WAS LEGAL AND THAT I WOULD BE LEGAL TO FINISH THE REST OF MY SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY. AFTER FLYING THE ROUND TRIP I WAS STILL IN DOUBT OF MY LEGALITY AND ASKED MY CHIEF PLT IF I WAS LEGAL. HE ASSURED ME THAT I WAS AND SENT ME TO FLY THE TRIP. I THEN DETERMINED THAT I WAS NOT LEGAL TO FLY DUE TO BEING SCHEDULED FOR MORE THAN 9 HRS AND 8 HRS OF REDUCED REST. I HAD BEEN FLYING ILLEGALLY AND WOULD HAVE STILL BEEN ILLEGAL IF I HAD CONTINUED TO FLY, SO I TOOK MYSELF OFF LINE. THE PROB AROSE DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY COMPANY BUILDS SCHEDULES AROUND THE MINIMUM REST REQUIREMENTS AND THE MAX ALLOWABLE FLYING. IT IS ALSO DUE TO THE HECTIC PACE AND DEMANDS OF MY COMPANY AND THE SCHEDULES. IT IS, AT TIMES, DIFFICULT FOR ME TO KEEP TRACK OF THE FLT AND REST REQUIREMENTS. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE WHEN WORKING BACK TO BACK 12-14 HRS DUTY DAYS ON MINIMUM AND REDUCED REST. CONTRIBUTING ALSO WAS MY FAITH IN THE SCHEDULING DEPT AND CHIEF PLT TO KNOW THE FAR'S AND TO HELP ME WHEN I WASN'T SURE OF THE LEGALITY OF THE SITUATION.
