Narrative:

'Chain of events' how problem arose? Concern over flying through special flight operations corridor of lax TCA. Filed flight plan, not allowing time for fuel stop at camarillo airport. Landed at catalina approximately 65 mins past ETA stated in flight plan. Unicom (catalina) advised that FSS had called asked if I had landed. Unicom informed FSS I had landed safely and closed flight plan for me. Complexity of lax area and special flight operations area of lax TCA no real problem in VFR conditions for experienced bay area pilot. Overconcerns of this pilot caused him to not extend flight plan. Have reviewed incident with CFI who is accident prevention counselor. Suggested that this pilot wear wristwatch on opp wrist that I normally do as a reminder to update/extend/close flight plan. Then when flight plan closed, return wristwatch to side watch normally worn on.
