Narrative:
On arrival at aircraft found maintenance clearing a previous item. Inbound crew wrote up main stabilizer trim as making a clicking noise. Maintenance advised they had inspected aircraft and found airworthy. We reviewed (maintenance and I) stabilizer trim, trim clicking noise was still found. Informed maintenance did not like the aircraft and wanted it fixed. Their response was that they considered it ok and was airworthy. Called chief pilots office and two chiefs were dispatched to aircraft. Chiefs conferred with maintenance and found aircraft acceptable. They also concurred with noise heard in stabilizer trim. Asked if chiefs would take aircraft they said yes. At this point agreed to take aircraft. Flew two legs and clicking noise did not get worse or better. On arrival on second leg wrote noise up again. I didn't feel like aircraft was fixed but didn't feel like it was unsafe either! I was put between a rock and a hard place. To complicate matters contract negotiations were on going and company very sensitive to cockpit complaints. I don't think I did anything wrong, but I could see how it could look that way, hence this report.

Title: AIRLINE MAINTENANCE DECLARED THE ACFT AIRWORTHY AFTER EXAMINING AND CONSIDERING THE PREVIOUS LOGBOOK WRITE UP ON MAIN STABILIZER. CAPT REFUSED THE ACFT. CHIEF PLTS EXAMINED THE ACFT AND ACCEPTED THE ACFT. CAPT RECONSIDERED AND ACCEPTED THE ACFT AND FLEW HIS TRIP.
Narrative: ON ARR AT ACFT FOUND MAINT CLRING A PREVIOUS ITEM. INBND CREW WROTE UP MAIN STABILIZER TRIM AS MAKING A CLICKING NOISE. MAINT ADVISED THEY HAD INSPECTED ACFT AND FOUND AIRWORTHY. WE REVIEWED (MAINT AND I) STAB TRIM, TRIM CLICKING NOISE WAS STILL FOUND. INFORMED MAINT DID NOT LIKE THE ACFT AND WANTED IT FIXED. THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT THEY CONSIDERED IT OK AND WAS AIRWORTHY. CALLED CHIEF PLTS OFFICE AND TWO CHIEFS WERE DISPATCHED TO ACFT. CHIEFS CONFERRED WITH MAINT AND FOUND ACFT ACCEPTABLE. THEY ALSO CONCURRED WITH NOISE HEARD IN STAB TRIM. ASKED IF CHIEFS WOULD TAKE ACFT THEY SAID YES. AT THIS POINT AGREED TO TAKE ACFT. FLEW TWO LEGS AND CLICKING NOISE DID NOT GET WORSE OR BETTER. ON ARR ON SEC LEG WROTE NOISE UP AGAIN. I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE ACFT WAS FIXED BUT DIDN'T FEEL LIKE IT WAS UNSAFE EITHER! I WAS PUT BTWN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE. TO COMPLICATE MATTERS CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS WERE ON GOING AND COMPANY VERY SENSITIVE TO COCKPIT COMPLAINTS. I DON'T THINK I DID ANYTHING WRONG, BUT I COULD SEE HOW IT COULD LOOK THAT WAY, HENCE THIS RPT.
