Narrative:

Gate security is maintained by magnetic gate and surveillance camera with personal at camera. Wind seems to be one factor in proper gate operation. Wind that day was 100 degrees at 12 KTS, estimated by national WX service. Customers were let in gate and the FAA had been visually monitoring gate for approximately 1 hour or more. Due to wind and gate adjustments, gate did not shut back normally. FAA inspector came in, idented himself and asked personnel if gate was supposed to be open. They said no and went to shut gate.
