Narrative:

Local flight from E18 to casa grande, az, 15 mins flight at 2500' (also casa grande pattern altitude). Clear calm WX no unicom or traffic. Was not aware of anything unusual until flare and contact. Factors and considerations. No slow down and descent into pattern. Gear normally used for pattern entry. Complacency due to good flying conditions, short flight and familiarity with aircraft (400 hours total 350 in this aircraft). No instrument rating. Used memorized gumps check instead of checklist. Gumps check cannot always be completed as an action sequence. Gear may be used prior to pattern entry, propeller may be delayed for noise abatement and gas may be deferred due to risk of vapor lock. Power on approach tends to limit effectiveness of gear horn and associate it with stall horn.

Title: GA SMA GEAR UP LNDG FOLLOWING A STRAIGHT IN VFR APCH TO NON TWR ARPT.

Narrative: LCL FLT FROM E18 TO CASA GRANDE, AZ, 15 MINS FLT AT 2500' (ALSO CASA GRANDE PATTERN ALT). CLR CALM WX NO UNICOM OR TFC. WAS NOT AWARE OF ANYTHING UNUSUAL UNTIL FLARE AND CONTACT. FACTORS AND CONSIDERATIONS. NO SLOW DOWN AND DSNT INTO PATTERN. GEAR NORMALLY USED FOR PATTERN ENTRY. COMPLACENCY DUE TO GOOD FLYING CONDITIONS, SHORT FLT AND FAMILIARITY WITH ACFT (400 HRS TOTAL 350 IN THIS ACFT). NO INSTRUMENT RATING. USED MEMORIZED GUMPS CHK INSTEAD OF CHKLIST. GUMPS CHK CANNOT ALWAYS BE COMPLETED AS AN ACTION SEQUENCE. GEAR MAY BE USED PRIOR TO PATTERN ENTRY, PROP MAY BE DELAYED FOR NOISE ABATEMENT AND GAS MAY BE DEFERRED DUE TO RISK OF VAPOR LOCK. PWR ON APCH TENDS TO LIMIT EFFECTIVENESS OF GEAR HORN AND ASSOCIATE IT WITH STALL HORN.
