Narrative:
We were cleared for the localizer backcourse DME-B at mfr. We were to maintain 9000' till ashie (18 DME), then cleared on the profile down to 8500' till 16 DME. At approximately 8750' MSL we received a ground proximity warning for terrain. We immediately executed a missed approach and climbed to 12000' MSL because we had noted the MSA of 10500' MSL. We notified approach control and requested an ILS to runway 13 which we received and flew to an uneventful landing. Upon landing we called approach to see what the highest altitude was in that sector and they told us to was mt ashland at 7651' MSL. Our charts show the highest terrain at 7533' MSL.

Narrative: WE WERE CLRED FOR THE LOC BACKCOURSE DME-B AT MFR. WE WERE TO MAINTAIN 9000' TILL ASHIE (18 DME), THEN CLRED ON THE PROFILE DOWN TO 8500' TILL 16 DME. AT APPROX 8750' MSL WE RECEIVED A GND PROX WARNING FOR TERRAIN. WE IMMEDIATELY EXECUTED A MISSED APCH AND CLBED TO 12000' MSL BECAUSE WE HAD NOTED THE MSA OF 10500' MSL.
