Narrative:
We departed sea with the required flight plan fuel load to go to anc with a kenai alternate. En route we encountered stronger than forecast winds. Over biorka island VOR we were 1400 pounds overburn. The forecast for anc and ena changed for the worse and ena's current WX was poor. After discussion with dispatch it was decided to make an unscheduled stop in jnu for fuel. This situation possibly could have been avoided by having a more up to date flight plan. The flight was delayed in sea approximately 2 hours from the originally scheduled departure time. The winds aloft forecast is updated in the computer only twice a day and it probably would not have made a difference to get a new flight plan just prior to departure. Although if the winds forecast were more accurate that would definitely have helped.
