We had an engine fire indication on takeoff. We secured the engine and returned for landing. After clearing the runway crash fire rescue equipment inspected the left engine; then we taxied into parking. A maintenance representative met the aircraft. The logbook write up indicated a left engine fire warning with a shutdown. The maintenance rep was debriefed that the engine was shut down and the fire indications went out when the fire switch was pulled. No fire bottles were discharged.
