Narrative:

Situation is student flown small aircraft on first dual x-country from 2g5 to 9g2 in VFR conditions. Problem is that while passing on the nne innermost circle of the TCA of dtw (outside of circle) it became difficult for the student to determine the amount of clearance he should allow to remain outside of the TCA. It seemed to him that the buildings depicted on his current dtw terminal chart seem to splash on both sides of the boundary, leaving him to decide what is a safe and legal distance to pass that edge of the TCA. Although there was no incursion, I do agree that the pictured building could lead to confusion for pilots not familiar with the area.

Title: INSTR WITH SPI ON DUAL CROSS-COUNTRY DISTURBED REGARDING POSITION OF BUILDING ON TCA CHART.

Narrative: SITUATION IS STUDENT FLOWN SMA ON FIRST DUAL X-COUNTRY FROM 2G5 TO 9G2 IN VFR CONDITIONS. PROB IS THAT WHILE PASSING ON THE NNE INNERMOST CIRCLE OF THE TCA OF DTW (OUTSIDE OF CIRCLE) IT BECAME DIFFICULT FOR THE STUDENT TO DETERMINE THE AMOUNT OF CLRNC HE SHOULD ALLOW TO REMAIN OUTSIDE OF THE TCA. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NO INCURSION, I DO AGREE THAT THE PICTURED BUILDING COULD LEAD TO CONFUSION FOR PLTS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA.
