Narrative:
During initial climb after takeoff at ZZZ; when the elevator trim was used; the trim moved in the opposite direction from selected. So; trimming up with the trim switches made the nose of the aircraft move down; and trimming down with trim switches made the nose of the aircraft move up. The pilot shut off the trim system; and used the hand trim wheel and landed back at ZZZ airport without incident.

Title: Beech 1900 Captain reported a malfunctioning horizontal stabilizer trim on take-off.
