Narrative:
Shortly after takeoff from dfw runway 31R, we had a battery overtemp warning light come on. We climbed to 2000' MSL, as per the trigate 1 SID. I removed the battery off-line as per emergency procedures. The light remained on and we requested a return to airport via vectors to 35R ILS. We were told 35R was closed (not mentioned on ATIS). We then asked for vectors to the 31R ILS. The captain was flying and due to a problem with his HSI, we asked for another turn. Approach gave us the vectors for another approach (ILS 31R again). This time I flew the approach due to the problem with the captain's HSI. We requested the fire trucks as a precaution and landed. On rollout, the battery overtemp light went out. Upon inspection we could find nothing abnormal with either the battery or the captain's HSI. We then (after about 1 hour) departed for iah (our original destination). On approach to iah, I was flying the approach and the captain's HSI stuck momentarily again. We landed on 14L with no further incident and advised maintenance again of our problem.

Title: FLT CREW OF MDT CARGO LINER HAD EQUIPMENT PROBLEM SHORTLY AFTER TKOF DFW, RETURNED LANDED.
Narrative: SHORTLY AFTER TKOF FROM DFW RWY 31R, WE HAD A BATTERY OVERTEMP WARNING LIGHT COME ON. WE CLBED TO 2000' MSL, AS PER THE TRIGATE 1 SID. I REMOVED THE BATTERY OFF-LINE AS PER EMER PROCS. THE LIGHT REMAINED ON AND WE REQUESTED A RETURN TO ARPT VIA VECTORS TO 35R ILS. WE WERE TOLD 35R WAS CLOSED (NOT MENTIONED ON ATIS). WE THEN ASKED FOR VECTORS TO THE 31R ILS. THE CAPT WAS FLYING AND DUE TO A PROB WITH HIS HSI, WE ASKED FOR ANOTHER TURN. APCH GAVE US THE VECTORS FOR ANOTHER APCH (ILS 31R AGAIN). THIS TIME I FLEW THE APCH DUE TO THE PROB WITH THE CAPT'S HSI. WE REQUESTED THE FIRE TRUCKS AS A PRECAUTION AND LANDED. ON ROLLOUT, THE BATTERY OVERTEMP LIGHT WENT OUT. UPON INSPECTION WE COULD FIND NOTHING ABNORMAL WITH EITHER THE BATTERY OR THE CAPT'S HSI. WE THEN (AFTER ABOUT 1 HR) DEPARTED FOR IAH (OUR ORIGINAL DEST). ON APCH TO IAH, I WAS FLYING THE APCH AND THE CAPT'S HSI STUCK MOMENTARILY AGAIN. WE LANDED ON 14L WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT AND ADVISED MAINT AGAIN OF OUR PROB.
