Narrative:
During final approach, when the landing gear extended the NWS bypass light illuminated. This indicated a failure of the nose wheel steering. As a prudent measure, I commenced a missed approach to better prepare for a landing west/O nose wheel steering. I advised ATC to have cft equipment standing by. After repeated cycling of the gear, we proceeded to shoot the localizer backcourse to a longer runway. During the approach the NWS bypass light went out. We advised ATC and landed west/O further incident.

Title: ACR SMT MADE A GO AROUND WHEN NOSE WHEEL STEERING LIGHT CAME ON DURING APCH TO FWA.
Narrative: DURING FINAL APCH, WHEN THE LNDG GEAR EXTENDED THE NWS BYPASS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THIS INDICATED A FAILURE OF THE NOSE WHEEL STEERING. AS A PRUDENT MEASURE, I COMMENCED A MISSED APCH TO BETTER PREPARE FOR A LNDG W/O NOSE WHEEL STEERING. I ADVISED ATC TO HAVE CFT EQUIP STANDING BY. AFTER REPEATED CYCLING OF THE GEAR, WE PROCEEDED TO SHOOT THE LOC BACKCOURSE TO A LONGER RWY. DURING THE APCH THE NWS BYPASS LIGHT WENT OUT. WE ADVISED ATC AND LANDED W/O FURTHER INCIDENT.
