Narrative:
Backcourse 19L ict. After being vectored onto final approach course and being advised of position, power was reduced to gear operation speed. The gear up warning led me to believe I was over the OM and started to descend. Approach control advised that they were showing me below assigned altitude (not yet at FAF). After xng OM approximately 300' below alert altitude executed missed approach. Accepted vectors to front course ILS 19R.

Title: PLT IN SMA TYPE ACFT MAKING A PRACTICE BACKCOURSE ILS APCH MISTOOK GEAR WARNING FOR OM INDICATION AND STARTED DESCENT. CTLR ALERT CAUSED PLT TO WISELY ABANDON APCH AND MAKE A MISSED APCH. REORGANIZED FOR AN ILS FRONT COURSE APCH.
Narrative: BACKCOURSE 19L ICT. AFTER BEING VECTORED ONTO FINAL APCH COURSE AND BEING ADVISED OF POS, PWR WAS REDUCED TO GEAR OPERATION SPD. THE GEAR UP WARNING LED ME TO BELIEVE I WAS OVER THE OM AND STARTED TO DSND. APCH CTL ADVISED THAT THEY WERE SHOWING ME BELOW ASSIGNED ALT (NOT YET AT FAF). AFTER XNG OM APPROX 300' BELOW ALERT ALT EXECUTED MISSED APCH. ACCEPTED VECTORS TO FRONT COURSE ILS 19R.
