Narrative:
I was about 20 mins out of mem on the wallet arrival and received the ATIS. Landing on 36L and right, so while I had the time I set up the ILS 36R approach on the #2 navigation. I was gong to request 36r4 when I was turned over to mem approach control. When I did get to approach control, I got busy with 3 heading changes and 3 altitude changes. When I started getting vectors, I just looked up at the #2 navigation and set the same frequency in the #1 navigation west/O even thinking that approach control had told me, 'vectors to ILS 36L.' this is a pure case of pilot error. In the future, I will only setup the approach I am cleared for. It is ok to ask for a specific approach, but wait for approval. It is good to plan ahead, but don't get too far ahead.

Title: PLT OF SMT ON APCH TO MEM SET WRONG ILS FREQ.
Narrative: I WAS ABOUT 20 MINS OUT OF MEM ON THE WALLET ARR AND RECEIVED THE ATIS. LNDG ON 36L AND R, SO WHILE I HAD THE TIME I SET UP THE ILS 36R APCH ON THE #2 NAV. I WAS GONG TO REQUEST 36R4 WHEN I WAS TURNED OVER TO MEM APCH CTL. WHEN I DID GET TO APCH CTL, I GOT BUSY WITH 3 HDG CHANGES AND 3 ALT CHANGES. WHEN I STARTED GETTING VECTORS, I JUST LOOKED UP AT THE #2 NAV AND SET THE SAME FREQ IN THE #1 NAV W/O EVEN THINKING THAT APCH CTL HAD TOLD ME, 'VECTORS TO ILS 36L.' THIS IS A PURE CASE OF PLT ERROR. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL ONLY SETUP THE APCH I AM CLRED FOR. IT IS OK TO ASK FOR A SPECIFIC APCH, BUT WAIT FOR APPROVAL. IT IS GOOD TO PLAN AHEAD, BUT DON'T GET TOO FAR AHEAD.
