Narrative:

On a flight from ptk to dtw, I was vectored to and shot the ILS runway 21L at dtw and apparently captured a false GS indication and experienced a great deal of difficulty maintaining descent rates needed, and while doing so, lost localizer and thus missed approach as detroit approach was giving me headings to do same. How the problem arose: my low time in type. My low time with type of radios. The short time to get set up for the approach. Poor vectoring and high northwest winds inside marker. How it was discovered: high rate of descent required to maintain GS. High degree of difficulty to fly approach in general. Detroit's giving of a heading for the missed. Corrective actions: miss the approach. Inactions: I did not have the DME LORAN fully set up for the approach thus did not have a full grasp on how close to dtw airport I was.

Title: PLT OF AN ATX CARGO SMT TWIN FAILED TO FOLLOW THE ILS APCH RESULTING IN ATC INTERVENTION AND PROVIDING HDGS FOR A MISSED APCH.

Narrative: ON A FLT FROM PTK TO DTW, I WAS VECTORED TO AND SHOT THE ILS RWY 21L AT DTW AND APPARENTLY CAPTURED A FALSE GS INDICATION AND EXPERIENCED A GREAT DEAL OF DIFFICULTY MAINTAINING DSCNT RATES NEEDED, AND WHILE DOING SO, LOST LOC AND THUS MISSED APCH AS DETROIT APCH WAS GIVING ME HDGS TO DO SAME. HOW THE PROB AROSE: MY LOW TIME IN TYPE. MY LOW TIME WITH TYPE OF RADIOS. THE SHORT TIME TO GET SET UP FOR THE APCH. POOR VECTORING AND HIGH NW WINDS INSIDE MARKER. HOW IT WAS DISCOVERED: HIGH RATE OF DSCNT REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN GS. HIGH DEG OF DIFFICULTY TO FLY APCH IN GENERAL. DETROIT'S GIVING OF A HDG FOR THE MISSED. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS: MISS THE APCH. INACTIONS: I DID NOT HAVE THE DME LORAN FULLY SET UP FOR THE APCH THUS DID NOT HAVE A FULL GRASP ON HOW CLOSE TO DTW ARPT I WAS.
