Narrative:
After parking at the gate in ZZZ; ground personnel notified me that a panel was open on the right engine. I asked my first officer (first officer) to take a close look at it on the post flight and upon observation it appeared to have opened in flight and been damaged. No abnormalities were observed in flight. No ramp personnel in ZZZ1 gave me any notifications upon pushback that any panels were open. The first officer assured me that everything appeared normal upon the preflight check of the aircraft. If the first officer or ground personnel notices an open panel or latch; they should notify the captain; as was done in this case on the post flight.
