Narrative:
During ascent; about 3 minutes after takeoff; I felt what seemed like an impact against aircraft left. Shortly afterwards the captain called to let us know the left engine had power loss and we would be going back to ZZZ. Yellow emergency landing; not expecting an evacuation. Captain advised the passengers. Flight attendant a; advised the passengers to have their seatbelts on low and tight. We experienced a smooth landing and there was an immediate exterior inspection of the aircraft. We then taxied to the gate and deplaned. All passengers and crew remained calm and orderly.
