Narrative:
After takeoff from phx at approximately 600' afl, the minimum equipment bay smoke warning came on, accompanied by the master warning light and horn. A heat or smoke odor was detected in the cockpit. An emergency was declared and immediate return to phx initiated. On downwind leg the odor in the cockpit seemed to dissipate and the warning indications all went out. An uneventful landing was made.
