Narrative:
Was on heading 040 degree then turned by approach to heading of 330 degree cleared for ILS 27L. M4000 until established on localizer. The turn, radar vector, seemed too close in at the time and localizer was passed through at this time aircraft was approach configured 15 degrees and gear down, when passing through the localizer, the aircraft was on G/south and the OM came on visly (light and aural). The approach became non stablized, and a missed approach was initiated. The copilot had changed to the tower and reported OM for 27L. The tower said 'left' should be 'right' and wanted to know what the problem was. He said we were still 6 mi from the OM. We advised 'we're going around.' the tower changed us to approach frequency and was vectored us to an ILS approach on runway 27R. I called the tower on the phone, and he put me through to approach control. The man on duty said another aircraft said he needed runway 27L and we were cleared for runway 27R. Our response was when cleared for the ILS 27L, we read back roger, cleared 27L ILS M4000 until established. Ord is forwarding a copy of the tape to me.

Title: MISSED APCH PERFORMED AND FLT CREW INFORMED THAT THEY WERE MAKING A WRONG RWY APCH.
Narrative: WAS ON HDG 040 DEG THEN TURNED BY APCH TO HDG OF 330 DEG CLRED FOR ILS 27L. M4000 UNTIL ESTABLISHED ON LOC. THE TURN, RADAR VECTOR, SEEMED TOO CLOSE IN AT THE TIME AND LOC WAS PASSED THROUGH AT THIS TIME ACFT WAS APCH CONFIGURED 15 DEGS AND GEAR DOWN, WHEN PASSING THROUGH THE LOC, THE ACFT WAS ON G/S AND THE OM CAME ON VISLY (LIGHT AND AURAL). THE APCH BECAME NON STABLIZED, AND A MISSED APCH WAS INITIATED. THE COPLT HAD CHANGED TO THE TWR AND RPTED OM FOR 27L. THE TWR SAID 'LEFT' SHOULD BE 'RIGHT' AND WANTED TO KNOW WHAT THE PROB WAS. HE SAID WE WERE STILL 6 MI FROM THE OM. WE ADVISED 'WE'RE GOING AROUND.' THE TWR CHANGED US TO APCH FREQ AND WAS VECTORED US TO AN ILS APCH ON RWY 27R. I CALLED THE TWR ON THE PHONE, AND HE PUT ME THROUGH TO APCH CTL. THE MAN ON DUTY SAID ANOTHER ACFT SAID HE NEEDED RWY 27L AND WE WERE CLRED FOR RWY 27R. OUR RESPONSE WAS WHEN CLRED FOR THE ILS 27L, WE READ BACK ROGER, CLRED 27L ILS M4000 UNTIL ESTABLISHED. ORD IS FORWARDING A COPY OF THE TAPE TO ME.
