Narrative:
Aircraft required R4 window change. I was the aircraft maintenance crew chief involved, that assigned mechanics for the job. The replacement window was incorrect, causing a pressurization problem (air interruption), requiring that the window be replaced a second time. I was advised of the windshield part #, but did not personally verify the # was correct for this position. That was the extent to my participation in the event. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: eyebrow window over first officer in cockpit of large transport delaminated. The eyebrow window in the large transport standard and stretch are very similar. Asking for the correct part we gave the wrong # and we installed a standard window in the stretch aircraft. It appears to fit properly, but in flight when the flight crew tried to pressurize the aircraft there was a loud air leak noise around the window. When a wrong part is installed, there is a blizzard of paper work that takes place to placate the FAA maintenance inspectors. This report is a cya.

Title: MAINT PERSONNEL FOR ACR REPLACED EYEBROW WINDOW ON LGT WITH WRONG WINDOW. CORRECT WINDOW THEN INSTALLED.
Narrative: ACFT REQUIRED R4 WINDOW CHANGE. I WAS THE ACFT MAINT CREW CHIEF INVOLVED, THAT ASSIGNED MECHS FOR THE JOB. THE REPLACEMENT WINDOW WAS INCORRECT, CAUSING A PRESSURIZATION PROB (AIR INTERRUPTION), REQUIRING THAT THE WINDOW BE REPLACED A SECOND TIME. I WAS ADVISED OF THE WINDSHIELD PART #, BUT DID NOT PERSONALLY VERIFY THE # WAS CORRECT FOR THIS POS. THAT WAS THE EXTENT TO MY PARTICIPATION IN THE EVENT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: EYEBROW WINDOW OVER F/O IN COCKPIT OF LGT DELAMINATED. THE EYEBROW WINDOW IN THE LGT STANDARD AND STRETCH ARE VERY SIMILAR. ASKING FOR THE CORRECT PART WE GAVE THE WRONG # AND WE INSTALLED A STANDARD WINDOW IN THE STRETCH ACFT. IT APPEARS TO FIT PROPERLY, BUT IN FLT WHEN THE FLT CREW TRIED TO PRESSURIZE THE ACFT THERE WAS A LOUD AIR LEAK NOISE AROUND THE WINDOW. WHEN A WRONG PART IS INSTALLED, THERE IS A BLIZZARD OF PAPER WORK THAT TAKES PLACE TO PLACATE THE FAA MAINT INSPECTORS. THIS RPT IS A CYA.
